The Bearcats scored 10 second inning runs, Matt O’Bar picked up his first win, and the Bearcats hit three triples in a 13-0 win over Cedarville in the Conference 3A-4 opener.
Making his second start and fourth appearance, O’Bar (1-1) allowed no hits over three innings and struck out six. He faced only one over the minimum which was due to a hit batsman.
O’Bar was staked to a 1-0 first inning lead when Rhett Nietert (2-for-3) tripled leading off the game and scored on a fly ball off the bat of Dylan Todd.
Rylen Ray also doubled in the inning but was stranded.
The Bearcat second started with a Pirate error – there would be seven of them in the inning – that allowed O’Bar to reach. He scored on a Noah Harrel single.
A second error plated a run and after Conner Lentz singled and Nietert popped out Todd bunted his way aboard and an accompanying error made it 5-0.
Dax Goff (2-for-3) tripled for the first of two times and it was 6-0 then scored on a pitch and it was 7-0.
O’Bar plated a run with a ground out, another error got another home, and Nietert singled home two to make it 11-0 before the inning ended.
Goff led off the third with a triple and scored on a passed ball and Parker Smith drove in a run with a ground out to make it 13-0.
Nietert and Todd threw the fourth and fifth innings to complete the shutout.
The Bearcats are scheduled to play at Paris on Thursday.
