LADY BEARCATS RUIN ANOTHER SENIOR NIGHT

The Booneville Lady Bearcats ruined a senior night for the second time in four days Friday night with a 43-36 win over Lavaca.

Though the Lady Bearcats never trailed, their 11th win of the season would feature plenty of drama.

Angie Brown started the final quarter with a pair of free throws that gave the Lady Bearcats a 36-22 lead, their larges of the night.

Lavaca crept back in it with a basket and a couple of free throws over 1:25 then got a pair of 3s and as within 36-32 with 2:44 remaining.

Two free throws with 2:16 made it a 2-point game.

On the ensuing possession Brown drove in for a basket but Lavaca scored again with 1:53 to play and again trailed by just 2 at 38-36.

Baylee Parnell drove inside and scored with 1:24 to go to make it 40-36 and a pair of free throws by Brown and one by Haylee Taylor allowed the Lady Bearcats to put the Arrows away.

Brown, who would lead all players with 15 points, opened the scoring with a free throw and would have a hand in the first 13 points of the game, scoring 7 and handing out assists on three Tempi Terry baskets, the third making it 13-6.

Terry (shown) would finish with 12 points.

The Lady Bearcats maintained a lead with Raelynn Franklin scoring three times over 2:08 but the Arrows scored the final four points of the first half and were within 21-18.

The Lady Bearcats opened the second half on an 8-1 run to lead by double digits and would go in front by a dozen at 34-22 on a 3 by Frankin that would close the third quarter scoring.

Franklin finished with 9 points.

On Saturday the Lady Bearcats closed out the regular season with a loss in Lamar in a game that was originally scheduled for Feb. 1 but rescheduled multiple times.

The Lady Bearcats finished tied for fifth on the season but are the 6 seed in this week’s District 3A-4 tournament and will face Lavaca, the 7 seed, again at 7:40 p.m. tonight (Monday).
