With the tying run at the plate and White leadoff hitter Presley Walker at the plate, Shelbie Myers avoided the fence just in front of the third base dugout to haul in a foul pop in the final out of the Purple team’s 7-3 win over the White yesterday.

That capped a day in which Myers, a senior, scored twice (once shown above) and drove in one as well.

The Purple team had broken the game open with six runs in the fifth and sixth innings to take a 7-1 lead.

In the fifth Ellie Smith beat out an infield single and swiped second base. She moved over when Taylor Villarreal reached.

Both scored on a double by Roni Tillery, who was aboard four times with two doubles being hit by a pitch, and drawing a walk.

Myers reached on an error that allowed Tillery to score and Zoie Jones, who had two hits on the day, would drive Myers in for a 5-1 lead.

In the sixth it was Villarreal hitting a double and scoring on a wild pitch. Tillery walked and came home on the Myers double.

In the bottom of the inning Amber Elmore, who had relieved starter Tori Nobles as one of the four pitchers used in the game, drew a bases loaded walk to make it 7-2.

Nobles drove in a run with an infield single that Tillery smothered at shortstop to limit the damage to one run and it was 7-3.

After the second out was recorded Myers fielded the pop foul to wrap it up.

Makinley Ensey had started in the circle for the Purple team and after allowing a first inning unearned run, gets credit for the win, allowing three hits and striking out six over five innings.

In that first an error complicated things but Nobles singled and scored the run and Farrah Stringer had her first of two hits in the game.

Jacelynn Poteet finished it for the Purple team.
