After rain washed out Tuesday’s game and both Thursday’s and Friday’s opponents canceled games, Lady Bearcat head coach Chad Simpson scrambled to find a second game this week.
Simpson was successful and it was a successful outing for freshman Torie Nobles who gave up four hits and one run in a 14-1 win at Waldron. The freshman (shown during Monday's game) also had two hits and drove in three.
Nobles (2-0) who won in relief against Alma on opening day had the lead when she entered the circle for the first time because she delivered a double that scored Ellie Smith, who had walked to start the game.
She had a 6-0 lead when she went to the circle in the second, and she, again, had a part in that.
It was 2-0 when Nobles singled home Farrah Stringer and Addison Elmore.
An RBI groundout by Cam Parish and a run-scoring single by Peighton Montalvo (3-for-5) made it 6-0.
After two were retired in the Lady Bearcat fourth, Shelbie Myers was hit by a pitch, Stringer singled home a run and Caroline Diffee doubled home another and it was 8-0.
Fifth inning singles by Smith (2-for-3) and Roni Tillery (3-for-4), and an error set the stage for Montalvo who delivered another run with a single to make it 9-0. Montalvo would match Nobles with three RBI on the day.
But the Lady Bearcats were unable to reach the run-rule plateau until the sixth when another five run inning made it 14-0.
In the sixth Presley Walker grounded out to score one run, Smith singled home one, and a Tillery double got two more before Montalvo brought in a run for the third time.
Waldron got a run in the bottom of the sixth but Nobles retired the next two hitters to end it.
While Waldron replaced Magazine last night, Simpson was unable to fill today's void created by Acorn, so the Lady Bearcats are finished for the week. They will return to action Monday when they host Dardanelle.
