Errors Cost Bearcats

Up 4-2 with two aboard in the top of the fifth the Bearcats felt like they had turned a 4-6-3 double play that, with a run scoring, cleared the bases.

After the call at first was reversed Cameron went on to take advantage of an error – one of four by the Bearcats – to take the lead, eventually added another run in the inning and would go on to a 7-4 win.

The Yellow Jackets added a run in the sixth after an offensive interference ruling – the Bearcats had also had a runner out for interference – and an ejection.

The Bearcats got the tying run to the plate in the seventh when Cutler Haller (shown on a relay throw) drew a walk and Casey Carter reached on an error but were unable to draw closer.

Cameron had taken a 2-0 first inning lead against Dylan Todd. After the Yellow Jackets loaded the bases with nobody down Todd got a strike out, a pop fly, and a ground ball that could have gotten him out of it but an errant throw let two runners come home.

The Bearcats got those runs back in the bottom of the inning with Jace Washburn singling home Rhett Nietert, who had been hit by a pitch and stolen second. A single by Haller moved Washburn to second and one by Parker Smith tied the game.

Nietert came up with two down in the second and gave the Bearcats a 3-2 lead with his first home run and the first home run of the season by a Bearcat.

It stayed that way until the bottom of the fourth when Noah Harrel singled, moved up due to a balk, stole third, and scored on a wild pitch to make it 4-2.

Todd gave way to Washburn (2-1) after issuing a pair of walks to start the fifth.

The Bearcats will be back in action today at Dardanelle. Game time is 5 p.m.
