In a game that was the epitome of spring sports scheduling Booneville beat Magazine 11-1.

Booneville and Magazine were scheduled to meet earlier this month but it was canceled due to Magazine reaching the Class A state basketball tournament.

Booneville and Lamar were scheduled to meet Tuesday but it was pushed back to April 10 due to Lamar winning the 3A state title last Thursday.

With Magazine open, that meant Booneville and Magazine could reschedule and the two schools who play within a mile of each other, did so, with Magazine hosting.

Three times in the fifth inning a Lady Bearcat cleared the bases with a three-base hit, the first of which scored three runs, and when the inning ended, a narrow lead against Magazine had become one of 11-1.

Makinley Ensey closed it out in the bottom of the inning.

There was one down when Caroline Diffee came up with the bases loaded of the 3-1 game in the top of the fifth. The freshman unloaded them with a shot to left field and raced her way to third and it was 6-1.

Courtesy runner Addison Elmore replaced the Lady Bearcat catcher and scored on a single by Presley Walker to make it 7-1.

Walker scored on a triple to center by Ellie Smith to make it 8-1. A single by Tori Nobles made it 9-1 and one by Roni Tillery made it 10-1, setting the stage for Cam Parish’s triple that made it 11-1.

The Lady Bearcats had scored twice in the first on a single by Tillery and a double by Parish (shown in the season opener), then extended the lead to 3-0 in the third when Peighton Montalvo reached on a Lady Rattler error.

In the bottom of the third Magazine got a run back on a walk, a steal, a ground out, and a wild pitch to cut the lead to 3-1.

Both teams left the bases full in the fourth before the Lady Bearcats pulled away in the fifth.
