Limited to five hits, the Booneville Lady Bearcats dropped a 3-0 Conference 3A-4 game in Lamar Tuesday.
Tori Nobles, the only Lady Bearcat with a two hit day, singled in the first but was doubled off when Roni Tillery lined out and the Lady Bearcats were never able to have multiple runners in any inning.
Still, Makinley Ensey, who gave up a first inning run, was able to keep it a 1-0 through four innings.
Tillery erased one runner at the plate with a fielder’s choice,
With the bases loaded and only one down in the third Ensey got an infield fly and a line drive, both to Nobles, to get out of the jam.
Tillery (shown) also turned a double play with a force out at second and throw out in the fourth.
An outfield collision and a walk chased Ensey in the fifth and after a pitching change and a steal, an intentional walk filled the bases again.
Presley Walker’s diving attempt for the first out of the inning was unsuccessful but Tillery was there to erase what would have been a single with a force out at third through a run scored to make it 2-0.
A two out single pushed across another run for a 3-0 lead.
Nobles singled in the sixth and was stranded and Shelbie Myers hit the right-center gap but was thrown out trying to reach second in the seventh.
The Lady Bearcats (8-4, 1-1) are scheduled to face Cossatot River Friday but weather may cause the conference game to be postponed until a later date.
