One Of Three State Qualifiers In Greenwood Meet Mattson Establishes School Record In HIgh Jump,

Three Booneville Bearcat track athletes hit Class 3A state qualifying marks in a meet in Greenwood on Thursday.

Dakota Mattson did so with a school record 6’ 6” high jump that not only won the meet but was recognized as an elite performance by Mile Split and was the only such boys result to earn the designation.

Also pre-qualifying for the state meet were pole vaulter Dakota Stafford, who cleared 11’ 6” and was second in the meet, losing on the tiebreaker, and Hunter Warren in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.19.

The Bearcats actually scored three placements in the 100-meter dash as Conner Droemer ran an 11.44 for sixth and Mattson an 11.50 for seventh. Mattson also ran a 24.51 and was seventh in the 200-meter dash.

The Bearcats picked up points in both hurdle events as Oliver Loaeza was seventh in the 110-meter event at 19.84 and Devon Ritchie was sixth in the 300-meter event at 47.50.

Wesley Fonseca and Ritchie joined Mattson in high jump scoring with a third (6’) and an eighth (5’ 8”), respectively.

Droemer was fourth in the long jump at 18’ 8” and Ritchie was third in the triple jump at 40’ 4”.

Blade Petchenik turned in an eighth in the pole vault at an even 8 feet.

In the throws it was Aiden Fox with a second place in the shot put at 41’ 6.75” with Damari Poole eighth at 36’ 1.5”. Poole was also fifth in the discus at 114’ 8”.

Both the 4x100- and 4x200-meter relay teams were third and the Bearcats were fourth as a team in the 13 team field.

In the girls meet Baylee Parnell took the long jump event at 17’ 4.5” helping lead the Lady Bearcats to a fourth place finish as a team as well.

Brooklyn Phillips was second in the shot put at 29’ 7.25” and the 4x400-meter relay team’s time of 5:14.97 was also second.

The 4x100-meter relay team took third and the 4x200-meter relay team was fourth, as was Zoie King in the triple jump at 28’ 8.75”.

Parnell was fifth in both the 300-meter hurdles at 55.15 and the high jump at 4’ 6”, King was fifth in the long jump at 14’ 10”, and Phillips was fifth in the discus at 69’ 1”.

Taking sixth were Laci Cibik in the high jump at 4’ 4” and Kailey Resch in the triple jump at 25’ 1”.

Alanna Helms was seventh in the high jump at 4’ and King added an eighth in the 300-meter hurdles at 1:00.28.
