Seventh grade athlete Sophie Shaffer won the 400-meter dash in the District 3A-4 Junior High track meet Tuesday in Mansfield.
Scoring 125 points the Lady Bearcats were the district meet runner-up.
The 4x400-meter relay team of Ariel Mezzaline, Daniela Vasquez, Kaylee King and Trinity Martinez was second at 5:08.42.
Each of the remaining relay squads finished third with the 4z100-meter relay group of King, Malena Loftin, Charlie Sing, and Sienna Siddons running at 59.82; the 4x200-meter relay team of Vasquez, Ava Hicks, Sing, and Siddons running a 2:09.45; and the 4x800-meter squad of Vasquez, Emily Thornburg, EmJ Lee, and Jessica Canada clocking a 13:02.09.
In addition to her 400-meter win, Shaffer was third in the 100-meter dash (13.81), the 200-meter dash (29.18), the long jump (14’ 2.5”), and the high jump (4’ 6”), where she was tied with Vasquez.
Also taking thirds were Martinez in the triple jump (29’ 2”) and Evelyn Rogers in both the discus (76’ 1”) and the shot put (32’ 9”).
Also scoring in the sprint events were King eighth in the 100-meter dash (14:18) and sixth in the 200-meter dash (31.03), and Vasquez seventh in the 400-meter dash (1:13.31).
Thornburg ran seventh in the 800-meter run at 3:19.73, and duplicated that finish in the 1600-meter run in 7:32.39. Kaitlyn Barber was eighth in the 1600-meters (7:46.65).
Tatum Brackney took fourth in the 300-meter hurdles (1:02.88) and Kimber Stevenson was eighth (1:06.91).
Also scoring in the high jump and long jump and was Martinez in sixth (4’ 4”) and (14’). Loftin was fourth in the triple jump (29’) and Lille Holt was sixth (26’).
Adding points in the throws were Jamie Reed eighth in the discus (61’ 1”) and seventh in the shot put (28’ 8”).
