Senior Farrah Stringer had two hits in two at bats, scored twice, and drove in two and the Lady Bearcats throttled Perryville 12-0 in a final nonconference game before this week’s District 3A-4 tournament.
With the bases loaded in the top of the second Stringer put down a sacrifice bunt that wound up allowing a second run to score for a 2-0 lead.
An inning later Tori Nobles bunted home a run to start a three RBI day and it was 3-0.
Peighton Montalvo led off the Lady Bearcat fourth with a double and later scored on a single by Stringer and it was 4-0. A two-out single by Ellie Smith added one, an error got one and a passed ball got another for a 7-0 lead.
Makinley Ensey (shown) had thrown three no-hit innings to that point but gave way to Nobles. Perryville had better luck against Nobles, but not much, managing a pair of hits in the fourth but having the runners stranded.
The Lady Bearcats (16-7) put the game away with five runs in the fifth. Montalvo singled home a run, Caroline Diffee chased two home with a single and a two-out single by Nobles got two more and it was 12-0.
While making their way back from Perry County the Lady Bearcats learned their tournament opponent as Paris topped Cedarville 20-10 in six innings to move to the quarterfinals to face the third seeded Lady Bearcats.
The winner of today’s game, which is scheduled for 4 p.m., will earn a berth in next week’s Class 3A Region 1 tournament in Lincoln.
