Canada Wins 3200, Lady Bearcats Take Runner-Up in District Meet

Freshman Jessica Canada won the 3200-meter run in the District 3A-4 meet in Mansfield yesterday and the Lady Bearcats were the runner-up in the team standings with 124 points.

Also qualifying for the state meet next week were Presley Walker, who was second in the 200-meter dash (29.64), Abbi Schlup, who was second in the 1600-meter run (7:00.49) and the 4x800- and 4x200- and 4x400-meter relay teams.

The 4x800-meter team was Vanessa O’Neal, Christina O’Neal, Kimber Stevenson, and Schlup while the 4x200-meter grouping was Kaylee King, Alanna Helms, Baylee Parnell, and Vanessa O’Neal. The 4x400-meter relay quartet was Zoie King, Parnell, Christina O’Neal and Daniela Vasquez.

Placing third were Vanessa O’Neal in the 800-meter run (3:04.08), where Schlup was fifth (3:09.12); Walker in the triple jump (31’ 1.5”) with Malena Loftin seventh (29’ 4.5”); Anna Ferguson in the pole vault (7’); and the 4x100-meter relay team of Walker, Christina O’Neal, Zoie King, and Helms.

Parnell was fourth in the 300-meter hurdles (59.37) with Stevenson seventh (1:04.28); Vasquez (shown) in the high jump (4’ 6”) with Laci Cibik eighth (4’ 4”); Walker in the long jump (14’ 10”) with Zoie King seventh (14’ 7”); and Brooklyn Phillips in the shot put (30’ 3.5”).

Walker was fifth in the 100-meter dash (14.15) with Kaylee King seventh (14.49); and Phillips was fifth in the discus (76’ 5”) with Harley Fitzjurls sixth (74’ 10”).

Vasquez was sixth in the 400-meter dash (1:12.50) and Cora Nichols was sixth in the 1600-meter run (8:00.41).

Kaylee King added a seventh in the 100-meter dash (14.49) and an eighth in the 200-meter dash (30.97).
