The Booneville Lady Bearcats had two enormous innings in a 15-0 win over Providence Academy in the opening round of the Class 3A Region 1 tournament in Lincoln.

The Lady Bearcats (19-8) scored eight times in the second and seven in the top of the fifth to punch their ticket into next week’s Class 3A state tournament being hosted by Greenland.

Torie Nobles (3-for-4) got the second inning started with her first of two doubles on the day. She scored on a single by Farrah Stringer.

Caroline Diffee doubled home Stringer and Roni Tillery (2-for-4, 2 RBI) singled home two for a 4-0 lead. Cameron Parish (2-for-4, 3 RBI) singled home a run, Nobles reached on an error in her second at bat of the inning with a run scoring and Myers (2-for-4, 3 RBI) double home two to make it 8-0.

The second Lady Patriot hurler got through two scoreless innings before the Lady Bearcats exploded again.

Ellie Smith capped the seven run frame with a two run single after Parish had driven in two and scoring on a throw that got away, Nobles had plated one, and Myers (shown) had doubled again to score one.

From there Makinley Ensey closed it out with a perfect bottom of the inning against the two seed from District 3A-1. Ensey allowed just two hits without walking a batter and striking out four.

The Lady Bearcats and Lamar have crossed paths twice this season with the Lady Warriors winning both. Lamar was the regular season runner-up but won the District 3A-4 tournament last week.
