The Booneville Bearcats had baserunners in every inning but were able to push across only one run in a 3-1 season ending loss to Perryville in the Class 3A state tournament in Greenland Friday.
The Bearcats (17-11) loaded the bases in the first on a single by Rhett Nietert (2-for-3) and walks drawn by Dylan Todd and Hayden Daniel but all were stranded, the first of 11 on the day.
Parker Smith (2-for-3) led off the second with a single and was sacrificed into scoring position by Cutler Haller (shown) and reached third on a ground ball but was left.
Perryville used three hits and an error to take a 2-0 lead in the third and it stayed a 2-0 game until the fifth.
Then Nietert drew a walk, Jace Washburn reached on an error and, with two down, Daniel was hit to load the bases and Sadler Miller was hit by another pitch to force in a run and make it 2-1.
Nietert doubled in the top of the sixth but was unable to advance and the Mustangs added a run in the bottom of the inning to make it 3-1.
