Toby Weaver shots 9-holr even par 36 in the first home match of his high school career and the Bearcat golf team finished as the runner-up of a tournament they hosted today at Cherokee Creek Country Club Thursday.
Weaver, shown teeing off on Number 6, is first freshman to ever shoot even par for the course since head coach Jake Fennell took over the program.
“He just played solid golf,” said Fennell. “He layed up where he should have, and made puts. He only got into trouble just once, on Number 5, and worked out of it.
“It was an outstanding round.”
A couple days removed from settling for the second lowest round in Ratcliff, Alycin Pearcy, also a freshman, shot the low round of the girls division with a 54.
With Weaver, who shot an 80 over 18 holes on two courses this week, contributing the lowest round of the field, the Bearcats shot a team score of 125.
Fresh off his debut in Waldron Tuesday, sophomore Kass DuPree shot a 44, giving him a week total of 86 over 18 holes, and Hayden Daniel, in his first career round, had pars in two of the final three holes to finish with a 45.
As a team the Bearcats were four strokes behind Charleston, who had two players card sub 40 rounds – 38 and 39 – and two shoot a 44 for a 121.
Placing third in the five team field was Mansfield with a 135 (42, 44, and 49). Hector and Paris also had a full contingent for a team score.
The Bearcats actually had 10 on the course with Cutler Haller shooting a 46, Parker Smith a 47, and Tayden Washburn an even 50.
Completing the field were Chase Posey, Jeremiah Shaw, Rhett Nietert, and Cooper Smithson.
Girls
Alycin Pearcy, her sister, Lexy Pearcy, and Camrie Day combined to shoot a 173, to beat Paris by four shots back at 177.
Mansfield was third in the team standings.
The Bearcats and Lady Bearcats are scheduled to make a second trip to Little Creek in Ratcliff again on Monday.
