Brody Chambers ran 6 yards for a go-ahead touchdown with a minute to play in a scrimmage in Dardanelle Tuesday night and the Bearcat defense made the 14-13 lead stand up.

During the final minute Seth Wilson broke up a pass on first down, Branxton Hubble forced a throw out of bounds on second down, a screen pass on third down was too high and hit the ground.

Then on fourth down a muffed snap was recovered by Cutler Haller for the third Bearcat takeaway to wrap it up.

Chambers’ eventual winning score capped an 80-yard drive over 11 plays.

Chambers had converted a third-and-1 from the Bearcat 29, Rhett Nietert kept for 19 yards on one play, and Conner Droemer had 21- and 11-yard runs, the later getting the ball to the Sand Lizard 6, setting the stage for Chambers.

Chambers carried 9 times for 53 yards in the game.

The Bearcats had scored the first points of the game on a 73-yard run by sophomore Hayden Daniel with 3:34 left in the opening of the two quarters of play.

Daniel would finish with 81 yards on just 3 carries.

The game had started with three straight possessions ending in turnovers.

First it was the Bearcat defense derailing the opening drive when Warren dislodged the football on a rush and Clint Osborne came up with the recovery.

The Bearcats fumbled the ball back at midfield with 6:17 left in the opening quarter/half.

Dardanelle managed one first down after the turnover but Droemer intercepted a fourth down pass in the end zone to end the threat.

The Bearcats finally broke the scoring ice with Daniels’ 73 yard sprint two plays later and Nietert cashed in the two-point conversion for an 8-0 lead.

Dardanelle responded with an 80-yard drive – starting it with a deflection for a 27-yard gain – to cut the lead to 8-6. A point after try hit the upright.

Dardanelle took advantage of a second Bearcat turnover to go up 13-8 on a 6-yard scoring run with 5:11 to go.

Devon Ritchie ran twice, and scored twice in the one quarter game between backups and, with Dardanelle scoring on its only full possession, the Bearcats came out on top 16-8.

Ritchie ran 37 yards for his first touchdown with 6:27 to go in the quarter and Tayden Washburn ran for a two-point conversion.

Dardanelle answered with a 37-yard touchdown pass with 2:19 left and tied it with a two-point conversion.

Washburn hooked up with Jasper Meeker for 50 yards on the first play of the game winning drive and Ritchie finished it from the 8 with 20 seconds to play.

The Sand Lizards final play would be a sack by Blade Petchenik and Kass DuPree.
