Tomorrow night a Booneville Bearcat team will make its third trip across state lines for a football game since Doc Crowley took over as head coach.
Unlike the first two out of state travels for Crowley coached teams – trips to Stigler, OK in 2020, and Timpson, TX in 2021 – tonight’s journey into Oklahoma, Poteau to be specific, actually appeared on the schedule heading into the season.
The Bearcats and Pirates are closing out a two-year cycle that has marked the first meetings between the schools since a home-and-home series in 1956 and 1957.

LAST WEEK: The Bearcats topped Dardanelle 14-13 in a two quarter scrimmage. Poteau beat Rogers Heritage 14-0 in a two quarter scrimmage.
AUGUST 29 IN BEARCAT FOOTBALL HISTORY: There are no games in Bearcat history documented to have been played on August 29.
NOTES: Poteau has a new coach in Jake Hayes, and will be the first of four first year opposing head coaches on the Bearcat schedule this year. The others are in games at Ozark (Jeff Watson) September 5, Greenland (Brock May) October 10, and at West Fork (Sheldon McKenzie) October 17.
With last year’s win the Bearcats improved its program record to 6-6 against Oklahoma schools and Poteau marked the fifth different Oklahoma team a Booneville team has beaten.
Also in last year’s game, Hunter Warren ran 15 times for 67 yards and Seth Wilson had 16 tackles, starting all state seasons for both players.
Poteau is one of three Pirates on the 2025 regular season schedule with the others being conference foes Greenland and Cedarville. All three are on the schedule by October 10.
Following their week 0 game, Poteau will travel to McAlester, OK while the Bearcats will next travel to Ozark.
