Bearcat Toby Weaver shot one of the four sub-40 rounds of golf yesterday at Cherokee Creek Country Club.
Weaver, a freshman, shot a 1-over par 37 – the second sub-40 on the course for the freshman this year – but was two shots back of the 1-under 35 by golfers from Subiaco and County Line.
A Charleston golfer also shot a 38.
Combining Weaver’s round with a 42 by Kass DuPree and a 43 by Cutler Haller gave the Bearcats a team score of 122, which was five shots behind Subiaco.
Drake Brackney was just one shot out of the scoring, carding a 44, and Chase Posey was just two back with a 45. Parker Smith and Karson Tillery both shot 47, and Casey Carter had a 48.
Along with the subpar round Subiaco’s team score came from rounds of 40 and 42.
Mansfield and Paris also had enough golfers for a team score and were led by rounds of 42 and 41 respectively.
Charleston and County Line did not have the minimum three golfers competing for a team score.
In the girls division there were just two teams with at least three golfers and only eight on the course in total.
Alycin Pearcy shot the low round for the Lady Bearcats with a 55 and combined with a 58 by Anna Ferguson and a 59 by Makinley Ensey for a team score of 172, nine strokes behind Paris. Lexy Pearcy completed the Lady Bearcat contingent.
County Line had one golfer compete as well.
The Bearcats and Lady Bearcats will play just once more, on September 17, at Cherokee Creek, prior to the September 18 district tournament which is also being played at Cherokee Creek.
