Friday night the Bearcats play the first of three straight opponents who have never beaten Booneville and are likely getting their last chance to do so for a little while.
With Booneville headed to Class 4A for the next cycle, a total of four of the Conference 3A-1 opponents are getting a final chance at a win over Booneville during this year’s conference race. A fifth conference opponent has only one series win over Booneville.

TODAY IN BEARCAT FOOTBALL HISTORY: The Bearcats are 8-4-1 all time in games documented to have been played on September 26. Most recently the Bearcats had nine sacks in a 49-12 win over Two Rivers. There was also 494 total yards of offense with Josh Smith running for 137 yards and scoring four touchdowns.
On September 26, 1997 the Bearcats beat Subiaco 41-0 in a game that included 156 rushing yards by Allen Ray and the Bearcats driving 99 yards for one touchdown, which came on a pass from Matt Shott to Matt Bishop making the father/son duo of Matt and Doug Shott the only ones to be involved in a 99-yard drive (Doug scored the touchdown on one in 1981).
On September 26, 1941 the Bearcats beat Gentry 13-0 in what was the first game of the season, and the first under head coach Othel Ledgerwood, whose only season would be in 1941. It was a 13-0 win over Gentry. Ledgerwood had played at Arkansas State Teachers College, now the University of Central Arkansas, and was named to their All Time team for the date range of 1908-1933.
NOTES: Both Booneville and Cedarville were idle last week with both hitting the open date week after picking up their first win of the year of September 12. The Pirates completed a nonconference run through the 2A-1 with a win over Johnson County Westside while the Bearcats were dominating Paris. Conference 3A-1 was a collective 12-12 in nonconference play this season, a slight upgrade from last season’s 11-13.
