Hackett is one of 10 different opponents to have faced the Booneville Bearcats in both the postseason and as a conference foe. The games have either been the playoff meeting, in Hackett, or the Bearcat homecoming, which is the case Friday.
The Hornets have won in neither instance but the short series has provided some memorable moments, most notably the 75-46 shootout in Hackett in 2022. The 121 points scored that night is a single game program record.
Speaking of offense, the Bearcats scored 59 first half points and, with a third quarter touchdown run by sophomore Sadler Miller, hit the 60-point plateau for the fifth time with Doc Crowley as head coach.
While that was Miller’s first career touchdown it paled in comparison to the reaction another player got on his first career touchdown. That is because team manager Will Houston was in full uniform and scored on a 6-yard run in the 38-point second quarter touching off a big celebration both on the field and in the stands.
The 66 points is the sixth most in a game.

TODAY IN BEARCAT FOOTBALL HISTORY: Though there are wins on the last two playing dates, October 3rd has not often been a joyful day in Bearcat history as the overall record is 5-8 on games documented to have been played on the date. However, in four of the five wins, the Bearcats have scored at least 40 points.
In 1997 the Bearcats beat Dardanelle 50-31 in a game that saw Davin Hicks score a school record 6 touchdowns. He actually tied the record (Jeremey Thomas) and is now one of four to have done so (Anthony Napier, Dax Goff). Hicks had a 68-yard run among his carries which totaled another then record 290 rushing yards. That now ranks fourth.
In 1952 it was Waldron on the receiving end of a 72-6 beatdown. Jimmy Earl Holcomb had 61- and 62-yard scoring runs and threw Roy Jack Tomlin, Sr. a 56-yard touchdown pass and Lee Killion a touchdown pass of 53 yards that day. Killion scored a second touchdown on a fumble return and Darrell Mason had an interception return touchdown to go along with a 95-yard scoring run.
Most recently, in 2014, Bryson May scored 4 touchdowns in a 47-0 win over Danville.
NOTES: The Bearcats intercepted 4 passes last week, doubling their season total – there is a ninth on a 2-point conversion try. Hunter Warren surpassed the 2,000 yard career mark by running for 135 yards last week. Oliver Loaeza was a perfect 6-of-6 on PAT attempts and has moved into seventh place all time with 71 in his career. Devon Ritchie had never scored as a Bearcat until Friday, when he scored not only a touchdown, but twice on 2-point conversion runs, joining a group of 22 players with at least 2 2-point conversions in the same game.
THE 3A-1: Besides the Bearcats hosting Hackett, this week’s schedule features Mansfield in Charleston, West Fork in Lavaca, and Greenland in Cedarville.
THEME: The pep rally theme is homecoming.
