David Martinez ran 58 yards for a touchdown on the final play of the first half in Greenland Thursday to give the Seventh Grade Bearcats a 20-0 lead.

That would be more than enough as Owen Houston almost single-handedly controlled the second half from the defensive side of the ball.

Houston had five solo tackles in the game, four of which came in the second half, as the Bearcats (4-2, 3-0 Conference 3A-1) finished off a 26-0 win for their fourth shutout.

Martinez, who had run for 145 yards on just three first half carries would finish the day with 7 carries for 199 yards and a third touchdown.

Martinez gave the Bearcats a 6-0 lead with a 59-yard run on the second offensive play of the game for a 6-0 lead.

Alijah Pearcy (shown) scored on a 6-yard run with 5:06 to play in the first half and Jagger Jobb’s 2-point conversion run made it 14-0.

Greenland turned the ball over on downs with :08 to play in the half – Houston had made the third down stop and a fourth down pass was incomplete – allowing the Bearcats time for one play, on which Martinez scored.

Zane Holt ran 22 yards and Pearcy added 33 on a third quarter drive but the Bearcats would turn the ball over on downs early in the fourth quarter.

Martinez’s third touchdown covered 39 yards to set the final.

The Bearcats do not have an opponent scheduled for next Thursday at this time.
