REGIONAL TOURNAMENT BERTH UP FOR GRABS TODAY IN DOVER

The Bearcat volleyball team will be playing for a regional tournament berth this afternoon in Dover.

The Bearcats got to today’s match against Conway Christian by sweeping Atkins 25-17, 25-15, 25-22 yesterday.

Presley Walker registered 12 kills and Kaylee Ray added 6. Vanessa O’Neal had 4 aces and Emma Fox (shown, 5) had 3 of her own with a couple of blocks in the front.

Anna Ferguson led the way defensively with 27 digs. Cameron Parish added 23 and O’Neal 12.

After jumping to a 7-0 lead in the first set the Bearcats would not trail ending it when Peighton Montalvo blocked a Red Devil kill attempt.

The lead would reach double digits before settling for the 8-point win.

After a 1-1 tie it was more of the same in the second set as the Bearcats would not trail in the set.

It looked like even more of the same in the final set but Atkins would draw even at 7 and 8 and take a lead they maintained until another tie at 15.

The lead would reach 24-19 but Atkins closed to 24-22 inducing a time out before a service break to win it.
