Six different players scored touchdowns and nine different players accounted for the points in a 62-6 win by the Junior High Bearcats over West Fork Thursday.4
Cooper Smithson got it started with an 18-yard run the first time the Bearcats (8-0, 5-0 Conference 3A-1) snapped the ball to make it 6-0.
A 2-point conversion attempt failed, which would not happen again.
The lead was just 14-0 after a quarter. Edwin Garcia, who had a punt return touchdown negated by a penalty, had run 45 yards for a touchdown and Ayden Rhinehart added the 2-point run.
It was 46-6 by halftime.
On the first play of the second quarter Rhinehart scored on a 38-yard reception from Drake Brackeny (shown after a throw) and Garcia ran for the 2 to make it 22-0.
On the next play Garcia returned an interception 32 yards for a touchdown – there would be three defensive scores – and Brackney threw to Trevor Swaim for the extra two to make it 30-0.
With 2:59 to go in the half it was 38-0. Smithson ran 26 yards for his second touchdown and Brackney ran for the conversion.
At the 2:27 mark of the quarter the lead had grown to 46-0 as Swaim returned an interception 38 yards for a touchdown and Karson Tillery got the carry for the 2-point conversion.
A 45-yard touchdown pass got the Tigers on the scoreboard but Gabriel Lovell and Peyton Archie prevented a 2-point conversion to keep it 46-6.
Cain Catlett got into the scoring column on a 26-yard run on what would be the final play of the third quarter and Jordan Day ran for the conversion to make it 54-6.
There would be three fourth quarter turnovers. First, David Bik intercepted a pass but the Bearcats would give the ball back to the Tigers with a fumble.
But Day intercepted a fourth Tiger pass and took it back 37 yards for a touchdown and Jude Baker tacked on the two to make it 62-6.
The Bearcats will next play at Mansfield on Thursday in what will be their final road game of the season.
