The Booneville Bearcats scored the first six times they had the football and coasted to a 49-0 win over Lavaca on senior night.
The 3-seed from Conference 3A-1 was already locked down, but the win did move the Bearcats to 6-4 on the season. Despite the loss Lavaca qualified for the postseason as the 5-seed due to a head-to-head win over Greenland in week 4.
The Bearcats went 64 yards in 7 plays to open the game taking a 7-0 lead on a 3-yard Hunter Warren touchdown run and the first of seventOliver Loaeza point after kicks.
Braxton Hubble blocked the first of the nine Lavaca punts to give the Bearcats the ball back at the Golden Arrow 9.
Brody Chambers scored from there on what would be his only carry of the night and it was 14-0 with 7:37 left in the first quarter.
The lead would double in just 5:23.
First it was Warren’s second touchdown, coming on a run of 11 yards.
With 1:14 to play in the quarter Seth Wilson (shown) ran 4 yards to complete a drive on which quarterback Rhett Nietert was 4-of-4 throwing the ball, for 50 yards.
Nietert’s completed 6-of-6 throws for 73 yards on the night. He left after handing to Callen Montalvo who ran 34 yards for a touchdown to make it 35-0 with 11:34 left in the first half.
Nietert spread the ball around too, connecting with five different receivers, with only Hayden Daniel getting two receptions.
Parker Smith took over at quarterback on the next possession, which lasted just two plays as Conner Droemer went 50 yards for a touchdown to make it 42-0 with 7:25 left in the half.
Droemer would lead the Bearcats with 97 yards on just 3 carries.
Smith stayed at quarterback for the next possession which ended with Loaeza coming up short on a 42-yard field goal try and the Bearcats settled for a 42-0 lead at the intermission.
Drake Brackney, a freshman, became the third quarterback of the night and would complete the first pass of his career, to Smith, but also later suffered his first interception.
Two plays following the completion, Brackney handed off to Cutler Haller, an offensive/defensive lineman who made headlines earlier this year with a drop kick extra point, and the senior rumbled 49 yards to the 1 on what would be the final play of the third quarter.
Haller, one of 12 ball carriers in the game for the Bearcats, scored from there on the first snap of the final quarter and it was 49-0.
Lavaca made a bid to avoid the shutout after the interception but Brenden Hubble intercepted a Golden Arrow pass at the 4 on the final play of the night.
Next week the Bearcats will face Quitman, the 4-seed from Conference 3A-2. The schools have never met.
The winner of the game advances to the second round and earns a road trip to Rivercrest, the Conference 3A-3 winner who has a first round bye.
