The Booneville junior high teams opened the 2025-2026 season with resounding road wins in Havana last night.
The Lady Bearcats threw a shutout for the first half and led 19-0 then coasted to a 27-9 win. The Bearcats allowed just one point in the second half, after leading by 21 at the break, and won 59-12.
The boys game also included a third quarter dunk by Drake Brackney (shown) for 2 of his 9 points.
The third quarter also score Rogan Haller score 8 points in a span of just 35 seconds. By then the difference was 52-11 and Haller was done with a game-high 13 points.
Haller would be the only double-digit scorer in the game. Chase Posey put in 9 to match Brackney and Edwin Garcia and Cooper Smithson both scored 6.
All five starters scored in the first half for the Lady Bearcats but it was Clara Diffee coming off the bench to score what would be a team high 5 in the second quarter.
Evelyn Rogers scored 4 first quarter points, Alycin Pearcy had 2-pointers in the first and third quarters, and Rylan Ryan scored 4 third quarter points.
Sophie Shafer and Pearcy also had a half dozen steals apiece.
Both teams are back in action today against Dover, playing the back half of a four game set that includes games by the seventh grade teams. Both will also play, along with the seventh grade teams, in Waldron Thursday.
