Dover’s seventh grade girls got within 7-5 with 1:25 to play in the third quarter but Charlotte Green scored the next four points and the Lady Bearcats went on to a 17-9 season opening win Tuesday evening.
With that Green, who finished with 6 points, started a 10-0 run that allowed the Lady Bearcats to coast to a season opening win.
Sunny Bolinger made it 11-5 with a basket and two by Hadley Kimes extended the lead to 10. Kimes finished with a game-high 9 points.
In the boys game there were 10 Bearcats who contributed in a 43-19 win.
Jagger Jobb hit the first of three 3s for the Bearcats to start the scoring in what would be a fast paced 10-6 opening quarter. Jobb finished with 9 points to lead all players.
Easton Floyd and Deacon Lunsford (24, shown) combined for 9 of the 11 second quarter points and the Bearcats pulled out to a lead of 21-10. Both would finish with 7 points.
Roman Strong scored twice in the final quarter for the Bearcats.
The seventh grade teams will play again on Thursday in Waldron with the girls starting a four-game set that will include the junior high teams at 4 p.m.
