A free throw with 42.6 seconds to play in the first quarter had the Two Rivers Gators within 10-7 of the Junior High Bearcats Monday night.

By the 4:38 mark of the second quarter it was 21-7 and the Bearcats (3-1) remained in total control the rest of the night, winning 55-28 to cap a four-game sweep at home.

The lead fluctuated between 10 and 15 the rest of the half and was at 32-19 when Edwin Garcia (shown) hit a 3 with 3:29 left in the third quarter.

That started a 14-0 Bearcat run that included another 3 by Garcia and a conventional 3-point play by Ayden Rhinehart.

Garcia hit five times from 3-point range and led the Bearcats with 15. The Bearcats hit a total of seven 3s.

Toby Weaver closed the third quarter scoring with a basket that made it 48-22. Weaver scored again from long range and from close range in the final quarter and finished with 10.

Drake Brackney and Chase Posey both scored 6 points.

Two Rivers did not have a field goal until the 3:56 mark of the third quarter as the Lady Bearcat defense swarmed on the way to a 33-5 decision.

Alycin Pearcy recorded six first quarter steals and had nine by halftime, at which point it was 26-1. She reached double digits with one in the third quarter as the Lady Bearcats remained unbeaten at 4-0.

Pearcy made it a double-double by also scoring 10 points. Sophie Shaffer added 9 points on three 3-pointers.

Both teams are in action again Thursday at Scranton.
