In a meeting with a conference opponent in a nonconference setting the Booneville Junior High Bearcats dropped in 11 3-pointers and pounded Mansfield 45-20.
The win came in a tournament setting in Waldron Wednesday, following a 42-19 loss by the Junior High Lady Bearcats, also to Mansfield.
The Bearcats, who move to 6-2 on the season, hit eight 3s in the first half and led 26-14. Rowgan Haller and Drake Brackney (shown against Cedarville Monday) both hit three 3s, and Edwin Garcia and Colt Whitehouse hit one each.
The only first half points not a product of a 3 was a basket by Karson Tillery.
Tillery joined the 3-point assault in the second half, as did Toby Weaver and Brackney hit his fourth.
Brackney finished with 14 points, and Haller and Tillery both scored 9.
The Lady Bearcats (7-1) had trouble handling Mansfield’s press and fell behind early.
It was 24-4 at halftime but the Lady Bearcats found a little footing in the third quarter as Trinity Martinez and Alycin Pearcy hit 3s.
But the deficit was 38-16 going to the final quarter, with three players accounting for all of Mansfield’s points.
Up next for the Bearcats and Lady Bearcats will be games with the tournament hosts on Saturday with tipoffs scheduled for 4:30 and 5:45.
