The Seventh Grade Bearcats broke away from a 16-16 halftime tie with 13 straight points to start the third quarter and went on to a 36-30 win in Charleston Monday.
Deacon Lunsford (shown in a game last semester) started it but putting back a missed shot and also scored after a fake that displaced a defender to make it 20-16.
Easton Floyd followed a third Lunsford basket of the half with two scores and when Jagger Jobb banked home a 3 it was 29-16.
Charleston scored the next 6 points before a 3 by Floyd made it 32-22 going to the final quarter.
Charleston cut the Bearcat lead in half before a score by Floyd and another by Lunsford, on a pass from Mason Helms and it was 36-27.
A 3-point play cut it to two scores but Alijah Pearcy rebounded a missed 3 with 1:26 to play and the Bearcats were able to drain the clock without further damage, and improve to 4-4 on the season.
In the first game of the night Charleston handed the Seventh Grade Lady Bearcats their first loss, 27-20.
The loss, which came after the Lady Bearcats closed a big deficit with a pair of baskets from both Charlotte Green and Hadley Kimes, drops the Lady Bearcats to 8-1.
Both teams are in action again Thursday night at home against Paris with the girls game set for 4 p.m.
