Sometimes one is greater than three but it is not greater than two. Both were true in a 46-45 Conference 3A-4 win for the Lady Bearcats in Cedarville Saturday.
Cedarville had scored 6 straight points and led the Lady Bearcats 45-43 after hitting one of two free throws with 6.3 seconds to play.
Haylee Taylor attempted a game winning 3-pointer but had the ball stuck between the cylinder and the backboard but a Lady Pirate had been whistled for a foul.
Because the ruling was the foul occurred before the shot and, rather than shooting three free throws with a chance to tie or win it, the Lady Bearcats had the ball out of bounds with 0.5 seconds to play.
Out of a time out Taylor maneuvered around a screen from Raelynn Franklin and took the inbound pass from Makinley Ensey then drained a 3 from the corner to give her 11 points in the game, and to win it.
The final lead change was the 11th of the game. Cedarville had led by as many as 7 after an 8-0 run to start the second quarter, and the Lady Bearcats had twice led by as many as 5, including at 37-32 after a pair of free throws by Taylor early in the final quarter.
After Cedarville led 17-10 the Lady Bearcats scored 10 unanswered with half of them coming from Tempi Terry, who finished the game with 18.
Paris 47 Lady Bearcats 29
On Friday night the Lady Bearcats started the second quarter down 13-5 but closed to within 13-11 on a pair of Tempi Terry baskets and one from Anna Ferguson.
However, the Lady Bearcats were scoreless for almost five minutes until an Emma Fox free throw and by then the Lady Eagles had opened a 15-point advantage.
With Makinley Ensey scoring 6 of her team high 10 points in the third quarter, the Lady Bearcats were able to keep within striking distance until a 10-2 Paris run made it 40-21 with 6:56 to play.
Both the Lady Bearcats and Bearcats will play three conference games again this week starting with games in Mansfield tonight.
