A 13-point first quarter for Alycin Pearcy offered a big hint that it might be a night like any other.
Well, actually unlike all but one, as the freshman, scoring 6 points at the free throw line in the second quarter, would have 19 by halftime.
She had logged 28 points going to the final 6 minutes.
Pearcy was fouled on a shot that went through the net to give her 30 but misfired the and-one three throw – her only miss in 10 attempts at the line – and was finished with 30 points, tying the junior girls record held by Brittany Ward.
Pearcy also had 10 steals, 7 rebounds, and 2 assists.
The game? The Lady Bearcats led 28-15 at halftime and completely took it over in the third quarter, opening a 43-18 lead on the way to a 47-30 final.
In the boys game, a 59-26 win, the Bearcats scored the first 14 points of the game – in under four minutes – but it was 18-9 when the quarter ended.
Another 14-0 run made it 32-9 late in the half.
Through three quarters the advantage was 47-21 as the Bearcats were coasting.
Both teams will be back in action, along with both seventh grade teams, Thursday night in Mansfield.
