Lamar pulled away over the final five minutes of Tuesday’s game with the Lady Bearcats, ultimately taking a 59-45 win.
Until the 5:08 mark of the final quarter the biggest deficit for the Lady Bearcats had been nine and it had been as close as 9-8 after a Makinley Ensey basket with 2:50 left in the first and 23-21 after one from Tempi Terry 1:52 before halftime.
With 5:06 to play in the third quarter Tuesday night in Lamar Anna Ferguson took a pass from Ensey and banked home a shot for a 34-33 lead for the Lady Bearcats.
Lamar went back in front 14 seconds later with a pair of free throws when Tempi Terry was whistled for her third foul. Her fourth came moments later and Lamar, started to pull away.
Still, the deficit was only 6, and then 7, after a pair of Raelynn Franklin fourth quarter baskets, but after extending the lead to double digits, Lamar worked the clock and put the game way.
Terry led the Lady Bearcats with 13 points. Ensey added 8.
Mansfield 69 Lady Bearcats 41
On Friday the Lady Bearcats kept it close early, trailing 12-8 after Haylee Taylor hit a 3 and 18-11 after one from Emma Fox with 1:13 left in the first quarter.
Mansfield, however, would score 14 unanswered points and was well on their way to a win.
Taylor would score 19 points to lead the Lady Bearcats, giving her 43 against the Lady Tigers in the two meetings during the week. Ensey added 10.
The Lady Bearcats are next scheduled to face Cedarville Friday night.
