The Booneville Junior High Lady Bearcats bounced back from Thursday’s first conference loss with a win over Pleasant View to reach the semifinals of the 40th Opal Pistole Tournament Saturday, and trounced Lamar on Monday in conference play.
Tonight the Lady Bearcats (14-2) face Scranton in the Pistole semifinals.
In Monday’s 31-9 win over Lamar it was Tatum Brackney scoring 7 points to help stake the Lady Bearcats to a 19-2 first half advantage.
While Brackney was done for the game, at least in the scoring column, Evelyn Rogers was not. Rogers scored 8 of hter 14 in the third quarter and the lead grew to 29-4.
At the tournament in County Line on Saturday Alycin Pearcy scored 12 of her 15 points in the middle quarters and the Lady Bearcats doubled their first quarter lead of 5 to one of 10 at 29-19 going to the final quarter.
Triniity Martinez (shown in a game played earlier this season) finished the night with 6 points.
In Thursday’s conference game at Mansfield the Lady Tigers shot 18 free throws – 14 in the second half – and converted 10 while the Lady Bearcats were just 4-of-11 from the line, largely accounting for the difference in the 41-36 final.
Pearcy scored 18 points in the game with 7 coming in the third quarter, when Rogers also scored 4 and the Lady Bearcats pulled to within 30-28.
