The bank was open late in Cove, Arkansas Tuesday night.
Alycin Pearcy took an inbound pass from Evelyn Rogers (both shown in a game earlier this season) in the front court and launched a three from the Cossatot Eagle’s wing, banking in a 3 to beat the Lady Eagles 35-34 handing Cossatot its first Conference 3A-4 loss of the season.
Pearcy’s winner – the second by a Booneville girls basketball player in two days – was the only Lady Bearcat lead of the final quarter and one of just two all night.
Cossatot had led 22-11 when the Lady Bearcats took a time out with 1:21 left in the first half.
The Lady Bearcats (17-2) cut the deficit to 22-19 before halftime and would make it a 10-0 run and trailed 22-21 in the third quarter.
A Tatum Brackney free throw finally tied the game – Cossatot had led since scoring the first 6 points of the night – at 26-26 and a steal and layup by Trinity Martinez made it 28-26 with 2:07 left in the third.
Cossatot used a free throw to get within one and scored with just over a second to play in the third quarter to retake a lead they held until Pearcy hit the winner.
Prior to the game winner it was twice a one-point game with the Lady Bearcats in possession of the basketball but they could not get a shot to fall.
A foul was called after the second attempt to take a late lead and with 0.8 seconds a Lady Eagle free throw made it 34-32.
Out of a time out the shooter missed the second free throw, possibly purposefully, but the shot did not hit the goal so the clock did not start and the Lady Bearcats got the ball out of bounds, setting up the Rogers-to- Pearcy-to-the-bank winner.
Cossatot came into the week 5-0 with games remaining against the Lady Bearcats and Mansfield, and it is that game that Thursday game that will ultimately decide seeding for the district tournament which begins on Saturday.
A win by Mansfield makes the Lady Bearcats (6-1) the 2-seed, Cossatot the 3 and Mansfield the 1. A win by Cossatot throws the conference into a 3-way tie and will go to the tiebreaker.
The Lady Bearcats will close out the regular season on Thursday along with the seventh grade girls and boys and junior boys by hosting Charleston.
