The Booneville Lady Bearcats led by as many as six points in the first half, and were within one point of Lamar with 3:39 to go in the game Wednesday night before falling 40-32.

It was a 3 by Makinley Ensey that cut Lamar’s lead to 31-30 in the game rescheduled from January 26, but the Lamar went on a 9-0 run to close it out.

Haylee Taylor’s second 3 of the first quarter broke a 5-5 tie and Ensey, Anna Ferguson, and Tempi Terry all contributed to give the Lady Bearcats a 13-7 advantage.

Ferguson scored the next four points at the free throw line and scored 7 of her team-high 9 in the first half, including a basket just 7 seconds before halftime, that got the Lady Bearcats within 22-21.

The score was unchanged for the first 3:19 of the second half before Lamar eventually opened a 6-point lead – it’s biggest of the night to that point.

There were seven first quarter lead changes and it was still a 27-22 game after a Reed Brackney basket with 5:10 left in the first half but the Warriors scored 20 unanswered points before halftime and were in total control.

Dakota Fonseca (shown) was a force in the first quarter with 8 of his 12 points. Tayden Washburn also scored a dozen for the Bearcats.

Sadler Miller scored 7 fourth quarter points.

Up next for both teams is a trip to Charleston Friday night. The Bearcats will follow that up with a trip to Subiaco Saturday afternoon.
