Thirteen Booneville Junior High Bearcats logged points and the Bearcats throttled Subiaco 45-17 in the opening round of the District 3A-4 tournament Saturday in Cedarville.

The Bearcats (19-3) scored the first 10 points of the game and led 15-1 through one quarter, with all starters scoring. The lead was no less than 12 the rest of the way.

The Trojans were the 8-seed in the tournament and were playing their second game of the day after ousting 9-seed Cossatot River in the first game of the day.

By halftime nine players had scored and it was 25-9.

Edwin Garcia (shown in a game earlier this season) hit a pair of third quarter 3s to spell the end of the day for the regulars. Garicia’s 8 points led the Bearcats.

The Bearcats (19-3) will face host Cedarville on Monday at 5:15. The fifth seeded Pirates beat fourth seeded Paris in overtime Saturday.

Charleston 29 Lady Bearcats 28

A three-and-a-half minute stretch in which Charleston scored more points than they had scored for three plus quarters spelled an end to the Junior High Lady Bearcat season Saturday night in the first round of the tournament.

The outcome spoiled an outing in which Evelyn Rogers recorded a double-double with 11 points and 15 rebounds. Rogers also blocked five shots and had a couple of assists.

The Lady Bearcats finish the season with a record of 18-3.
