Offensive Struggles Cost Bearcats In Second Half Friday

The Booneville Bearcats took a six point lead into halftime in Charleston Friday night but could not generate much on the offensive end of the floor in the second half, resulting in a 51-41 loss to the Tigers.

After Charleston scored the first 9 points of the game and led 17-10 late in the first quarter the Bearcats went to work with a 13-2 run to take the lead for the first time on a Hayden Daniel 3 and, extend it to 23-19 on a basket by Dakota Fonseca.

Charleston got to within one at 26-25 but Tayden Washburn scored to start a 9-0 run that included two baskets by Reed Brackney (shown) and a 3 from Nick Widener to give the Bearcats a 34-25, marking a 16-point swing in 8 minutes of game action.

Charleston cut it to 6 before the break and was within 34-30 before another 3 by Widener made it 37-30.

The next Bearcat basket, from Washburn would tie the game at 39 with 1:53 to play in the third quarter.

The Tigers were up by 3 going to the final quarter and by 5 when Washburn scored again, giving him a team high 14, to make it 44-41 with 6:11 to play.

The Bearcats would not score again and Charleston stretched the lead to the game’s largest at 51-41.

Charleston 62 Lady Bearcats 34

Except for a 9-0 scoring run by Charleston over three and a half minutes of the first quarter the Lady Bearcats stood their ground on the road Friday night.

The Lady Bearcats led 6-3 after a 3 by Makinley Ensey before Charleston’s run, interrupted finally by a Haylee Taylor – Taylor had started the scoring in the game with her 100th career 3.

After Charleston led 17-9 Chloe Walker scored on either side of the first quarter break, from inside and outside the arc, and it was a 3-point game.

It was twice a four point deficit after baskets by Raelynn Franklin and again after one by Emma Fox before Charleston led 26-20 at the break.

The Lady Tigers scored the first 8 points of the second half to increase their lead to one of 14 and led comfortably the rest of the way.

Taylor led the Lady Bearcats with 10 points.

Subiaco 75 Bearcats 28

Playing their third game in four days, fourth of the week, and fifth in eight days the Bearcats stumbled to a loss in Subiaco Saturday afternoon.

The second meeting with the Trojans in the eight days was decided early as Subiaco, after a Hayden Daniel basket started the scoring, scored 26 straight.

Daniel would score 7 points to lead the Bearcats.
