For a half it was Chase Posey leading the way in the scoring column. In the third quarter it was Cooper Smithson. The fourth belonged to Drake Brackney and Edwin Garcia.
In the end it was the Booneville Junior High Bearcats (21-3) collecting the District 3A-4 tournament title plaque with a 48-29 win over Lamar in the tournament finals in Cedarville Wednesday night.
The regular season conference champion Bearcats led 20-16 after a half in which Posey scored all 11 of his points and Smithson pulled down 7 of his team high 9 rebounds.
The first half also saw Brackney whistled for three fouls in less than a quarter and a half, and have to exit the game with the score tied at 14.
Lamar went in front 16-14 just 12 seconds after Brackney took a seat but Posey hit shots to both tie it and give the Bearcats the lead, which would be the final of eight lead changes.
A Karson Tillery basket, on one of four Ayden Rhinehart assists, made it a four-point cushion at the half.
Smithson drained a 3 just 12 seconds into the second half and he would score 12 points in the quarter to lead all players with 14.
A Garcia 3 made it a 10-point lead, and after Lamar answered with a 3 of their own, Smithson hit his second 3 of the quarter to reestablish the double-digit lead.
Smithson added a basket and two free throws before the quarter ended, answered only by a single Warrior free throw and it was 35-23 with only six minutes to play.
Lamar scored to cut it to 9 with 5:40 to play but Brackney scored eight straight for the Bearcats, interrupted only by a Lamar 3 for what would be their final points and it was 43-29.
Garcia put back a miss and hit a 3 with 1:27 left to give him an 8-point night as the Bearcats wrapped up a 15th straight win.
