Led by Brook Herrera shooting a 1-under par 35, the low round of the day, the Bearcat golf team fired a team score of 114 to finish in a tie with Waldron in their opening tournament Monday at Cherokee Creek Country Club in Booneville.
The tournament was a nine-hole affair.
Lady Cat Joleigh Tate also shot the low round of the day in the girls division with a 41.
Rounding out the Bearcats team score was a 38 by Rylen Ray and a 41 by Brett Welling.
Waldron also had a golfer shoot 1-under, and had their team score completed with rounds of 39 and 40.
There were eight Bearcat golfers on the course today, including several first time players. Freshman
Noah Harrel (pictured on the Number 6 green) was just one stroke behind Welling with a 42, and Jace Washburn, another freshman, shot a 46.
Peyton Tatum, a junior who took up the sport this year, shot a 50; Macolen Tillery shot a 52 and Colt Cobb completed the round in 62 strokes.
Placing third as a team, 24 strokes back, was Charleston with a 138 from its top three of nine golfers. Paris was 24 more strokes back at 162.
Mansfield also had two golfers on the course.
In the girls division Charleston took the team title with a total of 137, 11 shots ahead of the Lady Cats.
Besides Tate, the Lady Cats got a 46 from junior Leigh Swint and newcomers Brooke Turner and Hayley Lunsford, both seniors, bot shot a 61 their first time out.
Charleston’s team score came from rounds of 43, 44, and 50.
Mansfield, Paris, and Waldron were also represented.
The Bearcats and Lady Cats will next play on Wednesday in Waldron. Tee time is at 1 p.m.
