A combination of missing their, so-far, best golfer, and a stifling heat, resulted in the Booneville Bearcat golf team placing fourth in a tournament at Cherokee Creek Country Club Monday afternoon.

Leading the Bearcats on the day with a 45 was Noah Harrel.

“I’ve been impressed with Noah,” head coach Jake Fennell said of the freshman who had shot a 42 on the course last week.

Brett Welling shot a 46 and both Peyton Tatum and Rylen Ray came in at 47 for a team score of 138.

For Tatum, a newcomer to the sport, it was his first sub-50 round of the season.

Also competing were Macolen Tillery and Jace Washburn.

It is unclear whether Brooks Herrera will be able to return to the course Tuesday when the Bearcats are scheduled to play at Little Creek in Ratcliff in a tournament being hosted by Charleston.

With the only player to shoot a sub-40 round – a 38 – Wadlron won the tournament, with Pairs and Charleston placing second and third, respectively. Mansfield was also represented.

In the girls division, the Lady Cats were seven strokes back of Charleston’s trio who shot a 149.

Joleigh Tate was the top finisher for the Lady Cats with a 47, with Leigh Swint (pictured teeing off on Number 8) a stroke back at 48. Haley Lunsford shot a 61 for a 156 total.

Paisley Vickers also made her debut for the Lady Cats, who were missing Brooke Turner.

Also represented on the course were Waldron and Paris.
