The Booneville Lady Cat golf team earned their first tournament win of the season at Little Creek Country Club in Ratcliff Tuesday, beating host Charleston by seven strokes.
Leigh Swint had the low round of the day with a 48. Joleigh Tate shot a 54, and Haley Lunsford’s 57 gave the Lady Cats a team score of 159. (Lunsford is pictured teeing off on Number 7 on Monday at Cherokee Creek Country Club in Booneville).
Paisley Vickers was also on the course for the Lady Cats.
“I've been proud of the way the girls have played early on this year,” said coach Jake Fennell. “We have three girls who have never played before this summer. They continue to improve every time they come out.
“Swint and Tate have both had good rounds under their belt, but yesterday was the first day it all came together. I'm proud of them.”
Charleston’s 166 team total was two strokes better than Paris.
In the boys division, Brooks Herrera was again unavailable and the Bearcats were second to Waldron, despite a solid grouping of Brett Welling shooting a 42 and Rylen Ray, Jace Washburn, and Peyton Tatum all shooting a 43 for a three player score of 128.
It was Tatum’s second sub-50 round in as many days. Also playing for the Bearcats were Macolen Tillery, whose 51 represented his best round of the season, Noah Harrel, and Colt Cobb.
With the lone golfer to shoot under 40, Waldron won the tournament with a 121 score. Charleston was two strokes behind the Bearcats.
The Bearcats and Lady Cats next tournament is set for Tuesday in Waldron.
