BEARCATS, TIGERS TO SCRIMMAGE TONIGHT

Bearcats, Tigers To Scrimmage Tonight

GLENN PARRISH

Booneville School District | 8/17/2021

Booneville will make the short trip to Charleston tonight for a scrimmage with a Tigers.

The Bearcats and Charleston have a long history of facing one another in some form, typically playing a preseason scrimmage in years in which the schools do not face each other in the regular season, including in advance of the 2020 season.

Coaching staffs at the schools are extremely familiar with one another as Booneville’s Doc Crowley is a Charleston graduate and Charleston’s Ricky May is a Booneville graduate and former Bearcat coach.

When they have played in the regular season the series is decidedly lopsided with the Bearcats holding a 48-12-2 edge.

Booneville won the last three regular season meetings – in 2019, 2018, and over a defending state champion in 2015.

That equates to a .790 winning percentage against the Tigers, which is seventh amongst schools who have at least one win over a Bearcat team but there are 40 schools without a win over a Booneville team. Those teams range from an 0-1 to an 0-12 record against the Bearcats.

The 48 wins over Charleston is tied with Paris for the fourth most over an opponent. The Bearcats are scheduled to face Paris on October 29.

The 62 meetings between the schools is a tie with Mena and Greenwood for the sixth most among Bearcat opponents. Mena is scheduled to pull ahead of the others as the Polk County Bearcats are on Sept. 17.
