Maddox Crosby recovered a fumble early in the game but the Booneville seventh grade Bearcats were unable to capitalize on the turnover in a 20-0 loss to Dardanelle in their season opener Thursday.
After the takeaway, the Bearcats converted two third downs into firsts on runs by Hunter Inklebarger and Preston Helms, the later coming after a penalty had backed them up five yards. The Bearcats were unable to overcome another flag and turned the ball over on downs at the Sand Lizard 17.
Dardanelle scored twice on long touchdown runs before the end of the first of the two 20-minute continuous running clock halves and led 14-0.
After being forced into a simulated punt to start the second half the Bearcats recorded their second takeaway when Rylin Swint intercepted a pass.
The Bearcats moved from their 42 to the Dardanelle 36 before another penalty – there were five against the Bearcats in the game – helped put an end to the drive.
Dardanelle scored the final points of the game in the final minute but Swint deflected a two point pass attempt.
Inklebarger was the rushing leader for the Bearcats and he also caught one Tayden Washburn pass. Washburn, Brody Chambers, and Reed Brackney were the leading tacklers.
