Through the nonconference portion of the season the Bearcat offense has turned the football over just one time. Meanwhile the Bearcat defense has recorded six interceptions – Trace Hall has two – and three fumble recoveries for a differential of plus 8.
Penalties have been a problem for the Bearcats during the first three games, with last week being the most deadly when there were 16 flags for 169 yards that negated 111 offensive yards besides pre-snap and defensive penalties. The first two games included 16 total penalties. Opponents have 21 penalties through three games
The Booneville coaching staff waited five years to avenge a 2015 loss to the Gators due to conference reassignments. The shutout in Ola last year was the only shutout of the season by the Bearcats. The only Bearcat defensive touchdown of the season came in the conference opener in Ola last year as Randon Ray stripped the ball from a ball carrier and went 36 yards for a score.

In 1993 against Clarksville the Bearcats were assessed 106 yards in penalties, but that didn't slow them down much as Brandon Herrera ran for 208 yards and three touchdowns in a 28-7 win. In 1976 Tad DuPree ran for 192 yards in a 32-14 win over Danville. Allen Ray had a 76-yard run and finished with 191 yards in a 28-7 win over Waldron in 1999. Mike Fleming had a 72-yard touchdown run and 138 total yards in an 8-7 win over Ozark in 1982. Bernie Satterfield also returned a blocked punt for a touchdown against Ozark on this date in 1965. Satterfield was later killed in the Viet Nam war.
