Johnson, Bearcats Place 3rd In Mansfield Saturday

The Booneville Bearcat cross country team finished third among Class A-Class 3A schools in the Today’s Bank Mansfield Invitational Saturday.

C.J. Johnson was the top Bearcat finisher in the division, placing 5th with a time of 19:08.47 over 5,000 meters.

Also figuring into the scoring were Emery Honey, who was 15th overall for 13 points. Elliot Wortham was 18th, London Lee 24th, and Boston Keatts was 28th.

Caden Evans finished two places ahead of a Waldron runner, which served as the tie breaker when both teams finished with 75 total points.

Lexi Franklin (shown in a previous race) was the top Lady Bearcat runner, placing 8th with a time of 23:38.75. Carah Miller was the only other runner on the course for Booneville.

Seventh grader Sean Pennington was the leading runner for the Junior Bearcats, finishing 6th in the 3000-meter junior boys Class A-3A division with a time of 11:25.97.

Taylor Shaver finished 20th overall and Cody Sum also competed for the Junior Bearcats.

The junior girls were also led by a seventh grader, Zayla Honey, who finished 19th with a time of 15:25.62.

Natalie Blankenship and Phebe Adair finished 27th and 28th and Raelynn Franklin also competed. The junior girls needed one more runner to compete for team awards.

Cross country teams are scheduled to travel to Lamar for a run on Tuesday.
