Given that the primary Facebook post and Twitter tweet regarding the scheduling of a game between Booneville and Tipson, Texas were viewed more than 49,000 times in the span of 24 hours, it is unlikely anyone reading this isn’t among those who viewed one of posts at least once.
That said, Booneville will make the five hour, 275-mile trip to Tipson – according to Google – on Friday to take on the 3-0 Class 2A Division 1 2nd ranked Bears in, obviously, the first meeting between the two schools.
Actually it is the first time a Booneville team has played a team from Texas, and in Texas.
Officials from the two school districts worked the game out throughout the day on Monday. The teams actually found each other through a Twitter post.
Joey Majors, who formerly coached in the area but now coaches in Melissa, Texas tweeted Monday that he knew Booneville was looking and tagged head coach Doc Crowley as well as some coaches and others in Texas to see if they knew of anyone in north or east Texas.
One of those tagged said he believed Timpson might be looking for a game. Timpson, who reached the Class 2A Division I semifinals and went 14-1 in 2020, was due to be idle for a second straight week.
Timpson comes into the game largely untested. The Bears have beaten Frankston 61-0, Waskom 49-28, and Carlisle 55-20. That’s an average of 55 points per game.
Those opponents are a combined 7-7 but, at 0-4, Carlisle accounts for most of those losses and two others are to Timpson.
The Bearcats are 4-0 after coasting to a 49-6 win over Two Rivers to open Conference 3A-4 play last Friday. Prior to that, Crowley’s team had beaten the top three rated 4A-4 teams by a combined 109-18.
The four Bearcat opponents are a combined 6-11, with four of the losses coming to the Bearcats and another when two of those opponents met.
Though not citing a trend of Arkansas schools having minimal success against non-state schools this season, Hootens.com has picked the Bears to win the game, by 2.
Booneville was due to have an open date due to a forfeit win over Danville, who informed Crowley after Friday night's game they would be unable to play this weekend.
There are a few schools in Arkansas open this week but some are open due to already having the maximum 10 games scheduled.
Otherwise, every Arkansas school Crowley spoke with regarding an open date they have for Friday was met with that school’s official declining a game with the Bearcats. Most schools open, with the exception of Waldron, were Class 2A schools.
Then classified as a “no contest,” Danville also pulled out of the scheduled game in Danville in week 5 last season and the Bearcats made a trip to Warren, which took about three and a half hours and was about 215 miles.
