The Booneville Bearcat boys golf team had three plays shoot in the 80s Tuesday at Cave Springs and finished seventh as a team in the Class 3A state golf tournament.

Brooks Herrera shot an 83, the 13th best round of the 56 golfers who earned a spot in the field by being on a first or second place district team or shooting well enough to qualify as an individual.

Head coach Jake Fennell said were it not for a couple of holes, Herrera would likely have been sub-80.

Rylen Ray, who Fennell said overcame a rough started, needed just two more shots than Herrera and, with an 89 carded by freshman Jace Washburn the Bearcats team score was 257.

The Bearcats score was just four strokes off of sixth place Centerpoint and 10 back of Mountain View.

Brett Welling was the fourth golfer on the course for the Bearcats.

All four Bearcats (shown at Top Golf the night before the tournament) will be back in 2022.

The Bearcat total was six shots in front of Central Arkansas Christian and Manila and eight in front of Bismarck.

Baptist Prep won the tournament by 13 strokes over Harding Academy with Gosnell third and Waldron fourth.
