Layla Byrum and Joleigh Tate won their opening round match of girls doubles play at the Class 3A state tournament at Burns Park in North Little Rock Monday.

After defeating a doubles team from McGhee the Lady Bearcat duo drew the top seeded team in the bracket, a pair from LISA West who had the lone first round bye, but were unable to advance any further.

There were eight Booneville tennis players in the various brackets of the tournament with Lexi Franklin and Ellie Smith – who replaced qualifier Linley Garrett when Garrett was unable to play – also featured in the girls doubles bracket.

Angie Brown and George Griffiths were in girls and boys singles, respectively, and London Lee and Evan Escobedo occupied a spot in the boys doubles bracket.
