Both the Booneville Bearcats and their homecoming opponent – Baptist Prep – like to score on defense.
The Bearcats scored their second defensive touchdown of the season last week when Dunn Daniel returned an interception 35 yards to the end zone less than a minute into the game to start the scoring in Mayflower.
Baptist Prep returned both a fumble and an interception for touchdowns against Mayflower.
THIS DATE IN BEARCAT FOOTBALL HISTORY: Due to COVID protocols that saw Baptist Prep cancel last year's scheduled game, the Bearcats are actually playing on October 15 for the second straight year, as they lost to Stigler 56-14 in Oklahoma on a Thursday night last year.
Including that game, Booneville is 8-4-1 in games documented to have been played on October 15. Talor Tatterson had a monster night on October 15, 2010 rushing for 255 yards (6th best single game total) and 5 touchdowns against Clarksville. With a 2-point conversion he scored 32 points, the 5th most in a game by one player. On October 15, 1999 sophomore quarterback Trey Holloway threw for 154 yards and 3 touchdowns in Lamar. Will Swint had 114 receiving yards in the game.
The Bearcats and Eagles have never met in a conference game because last year's game with Baptist Prep was cancelled and scored a no contest due to COVID protocols.
The Bearcats and Eagles played a home and home series in 2014 and 2015 and met in the opening round of the 2018 playoffs at Bearcat Stadium, a 49-0 Bearcat win.
