The Booneville Bearcat football team will apparently be shifted to Conference 3A-1 for the next playing cycle of the 2022 and 2023 seasons.

According to a document shared by the Arkansas Activities Association earlier today the Bearcats will be in an 8-team conference that also includes Cedarville, Charleston, Greenland, Hackett, Lavaca, Mansfield, and West Fork.

It is largely the conference the Bearcats were assigned to during the cycle that consisted of the 2018 and 2019 seasons.

During that cycle the Bearcats were 2-0 against West Fork, Greenland, Mansfield, Charleston, and Cedarville.

The Bearcats lead the series record against all five by counts of 60-16 against Mansfield, 48-12 against Charleston, 11-1 against West Fork, and 4-0 against both Greenland and Cedarville.

The Bearcats last faced Lavaca in 2015, a game that punched a playoff ticket, and the record against the Golden Arrows is 6-0. The only meeting against Hackett came in the 2020 playoffs, a game the Bearcats won.

The shift removes county foe Paris from the conference slate.

“I’m pleased with the new conference breakdown and I’m excited to get to play some old conference foes,” Booneville Schools Athletic Director Josh Walker said of the announcement. “Not playing Paris is disappointing. That week is always a fun week and both communities look forward to it.

“Maybe we’ll see them in the playoffs.”
