The 2021-2022 Booneville Lady Bearcats got to a double digit win count faster than any team in school history when they throttled Cossatot River 45-21 Tuesday to stay unbeaten at 10-0.
The Lady Bearcats, who moved to 2-0 in Conference 3A-4 play, led throughout, though there was a two and a half minute scoreless stretch between Joleigh Tate’s ice breaking basket and one by Heaven Sanchez.
After Sanchez scored again to make it 6-0, the Lady Eagles scored the next five points but that would be as close as it would get.
A couple of Lexi Franklin free throws made it 8-5 and a basket by Leigh Swint (shown) and a 3 by Brooke Turner made it 13-5 through a quarter.
Franklin pushed it to a double digit lead early in the second quarter and a 3 by Hayley Roberts made it 20-7.
Cossatot trimmed the deficit to 9 at 20-11 but the Lady Bearcats went on a 10-0 run through the end the second quarter and first three and a half minutes of the fourth quarter.
They went on another 8-0 run – with four points scored by Layla Byrum, giving her six in the quarter – after the lone Lady Eagle bucket of the third quarter and it was 38-13.
Carah Miller had the final points of the run and she scored again in the final quarter giving her a team co-leading eight. Miller also had a team best five rebounds.
Sanchez also had eight points and Franklin scored seven. Nine different players scored.
The Lady Bearcats next chance to extend their historic start to the season will be at 11 a.m. on Dec. 28 when they face New School in the opening round of the Bill Frye Classic in Mansfield.
